No matter which way you turn, you cannot avoid grappling with the monster, competition. Competition is ubiquitous. Even admission to good schools and colleges has not been spared. In addition to what you write, how you write also says a lot about you. After you have decided on a topic make sure that your essay is tight and that what you say is focused around the core topic. This will show that you are an organized person who is capable of focused work. If you let your paper meander, it will give the impression that you are disorganized and unable to concentrate. Research the topic sufficiently. Let the readers know that you have put in a good deal of effort into your writing.

Make your presentation interesting. Be descriptive where possible. If your writing paints pictures for the readers they will be able to understand your message better than if they have to wade through a pile of words and decipher their meaning. Use simple every day words. Let your sentences be short and your paragraphs small – no more that four to five sentences long.
