Dissertation Layout

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

Writing a dissertation is not as easy as writing an essay. Actually you need to master writing an essay before you can compose the chapters necessary for a dissertation file. However, there is more than writing and researching that will lead to the quality output profile of a dissertation. When we talk about dissertation layout, it means that you are going to participate in an activity that enhances the visual quality of the dissertation as well as the structural design of how the chapters were written and arranged. Now let us give you some pointers on how to improve the layout of your dissertation.

A dissertation layout is not as extensive or as demanding as a newspaper layout for publication. Actually, the outline structure of the dissertation is enough. But if you want to make your dissertation paper more presentable, then you should also allocate time to make it visually enticing to read. For example, it may not be too interesting to write a law dissertation full of words and pictureless pages. A layout that will condition the eyes of the readers will help in making them get involved in reading your project in no time. What do we have to cider in a layout for dissertation?

  1. First, make sure that you have already arranged the necessary chapters in a dissertation. This means that you must include the parts like Introduction, Literature Review, Methodology, Data Analysis Results and Conclusion in the correct sequence.
  2. A dissertation layout starts by having a good cover page. The cover page entries should include the title, your name, the class details, the date of submission and your professor’s name. All of these entries must be centered in a page.
  3. Now, the chapters should have a clean border when printed on the paper pages. You can indent the paragraphs to at least an inch at the left side part of the page. However, it is also possible for you to justify the alignment of the paragraphs so that both left and right page borders are equally indented.
  4. When you write the sentences for your dissertation layout, always remember to use a specific spacing format for them. Depending on your teacher’s instructions, you may write them in double-spaced segmentation. This will make up for more pages than it should be but it will be less straining to the eyes instead of reading cluttered words and sentences.
  5. Lastly, if you wish to include illustrations and pictures between the pages of your paper, you may do so. Make sure that you provide a lot of ‘clearance’ space between the words and the pictures of your pages. Or you may allocate a definite number of pages for illustrations alone.

The dissertation structure is not only about the chapters written, the correct sequences of the parts and the overall content of the paper. The dissertation layout should also be regarded as an important quality aspect of any thesis.
